One Day Someone Will Love You The Way You Deserve

RELATIONSHIPS ARE COMPLEX, ESPECIALLY ROMANTIC ONES. You have always craved that romantic connection with someone with who you can be candid and serious. After all, what does one wish of having someone to wake up with after a long period of having to wake up alone to an empty bed? Aren’t you deserving of someone who will love you the way you deserve?

Collectively, we long for a relationship that is not betrayed by illicit affairs, characterized by clandestine meetings and stolen stares. And we just can’t wait to have a picturesque love affair that fits the small square thumbnails on Instagram – one that will give Paris or Santorini a run for its money.

But where does one draw the line between what is real and what is superficial? After the honeymoon phase has worn off, how does our connection with this other person fair? Are we just in love with the idea of being loved – to finally have the connection we so craved for – or are we really in love with love?

Social media has painted different pictures of what love is and they have become our golden standard. We saw all these pictures flashing before our eyes on Tiktok or Twitter or Instagram and they are so powerful that they make us question why we do not have what they have. Why are we not in Santorini enjoying the picturesque whitewashed semidetached cubiform houses on the hills that tower the sparkling turquoise Aegean Sea with the one who stole our hearts? Why are sitting in our living room instead of enjoying a thousand shards of crimson light bouncing off Uluru in Australia while sipping an Aussie flat white with the guy who promised to love us forever? And more tragically, why are we single?

The answer is quite simple: It’s okay to be single because one day someone will love you the way you deserve.

So, here’s to all whose eyes are watering in tears and wishing they have someone to share intimate moments with similar to those flicks of couples on Tiktok or Instagram:

No matter how uncoordinated and distorted your life is right now, someone out there will step up and prove his worth. Love is a matter of chemistry – and often it’s a weird one. There will be no romantic justifications for it because when you know, you know. And it will feel right. It will make things right. He might not be the toned gym rat guy you see in Speedos or board shorts, but he can definitely carry the relationship to growth and fulfillment with both of you in the center. She may not be a Miss Universe material but she will definitely give you more starry nights instead of stormy ones. Plus, she can cook!

Work on yourself before you invite someone in. We all have our issues and often they can get in the way of our romances. Being single is the best time to work on your issues and strengthen your hold to reality rather than what you were led to believe a relationship should be. Relationships are complex and they are not like the movies. If you want someone deserving of you, flaws and all, you need to be as equally deserving for that person. After all, it takes two to tango.

Stop being superficially detached from reality. Taylor Swift was right about Illicit Affairs, people will lie and lie a million little times like clockwork. And, just like clockwork, you tend to bend and break your rules a million little times as well. You need to stop doing this and understand that you are not just destroying yourself, you are also robbing the right one the chance to meet you in your true form. Stop being too detached from reality and understand romance novels and films are just works of fiction. Reality is better with someone who will love you the way you deserve.

And lastly, stop looking for perfect. You need to understand that most, if not all, flicks and thumbnails on social media are not real. They are just publicity stunts designed for the gram and almost all of them do not represent reality. Stop looking for perfection where there is none; stop looking for perfection from yourself. You need to learn to dissect what is real from what is superficial. Accept that what and who you are is right and let go of any inhibitions that pull you away from attracting the right one.

Here’s to all of those hopeless romantics and old souls out there! From one single guy to another, don’t despair and hurry up to be in a relationship. Enjoy this moment, enjoy the singlehood and its perks. As cliché as it can be, those things are what you will miss when you’re finally able to find The One. Be jealous just a little the next time you bump into couples' photos and flicks on social media, but don’t forget to believe that One Day Someone Will Love You The Way You Deserve.
